I Became the Beta Test of My Own Theory
Share
For eight years I believed a thing built with heart, head, and inspired action makes magic. Right now I’m watching it happen in real time, and I’m the test subject.
There’s a strange thing that happens when you build the exact thing you spent years drawing on a whiteboard in your head.
You stop being the architect and you become the experiment.
I’ve been holding one idea for a long time. Five years, eight years, depends where you start counting, and honestly the early years were so blurry I’m not sure they count. The idea was simple to say and almost impossible to prove: something built with heart, head, and inspired action creates magic. Not luck. Not hustle. A specific order of operations. Heart sets the direction, head does the engineering, inspired action moves before you feel ready.
I wrote a whole framework around that. And for years it lived where frameworks live: on paper, in theory, in the part of your brain that believes things it hasn’t watched happen yet.
Then this quarter, it started happening in front of me. And I realized I wasn’t running the experiment anymore. I was inside it.
The atoms and the alignment
Here’s the clearest way I can describe what changed, and I’m going to say it carefully, because the actual science makes the point better than my shorthand did.
For most of these years, my energy looked like an ordinary lightbulb. Picture a scatter of atoms firing in every direction, every one of them a real idea, a real possibility, a real door. Nothing wrong with any of them. But light like that just glows and spreads. It fills the room and it can’t cut through anything.
A laser is made of the same atoms and the same light. The only difference is that in a laser, every one of those emitters fires in step, same direction, same rhythm, in phase, so instead of scattering and canceling each other out, they amplify each other. Same energy in. Wildly more powerful energy out. Not because anything was thrown away. Because everything got aligned.
That’s what happened here. Over time, and I mean slowly, in a way that felt like nothing was happening right up until it wasn’t, the scattered atoms stopped firing at random and started firing in step. A wide, glowing, diffuse field became a coherent beam.
And the thing nobody tells you about that kind of alignment is what it does to your speed. When everything fires in phase, the company moves faster, and the faster you move, the more the next thing clarifies, which lets you move faster again. Coherence compounds. That’s the part I couldn’t have known until I was standing inside it.
What speed actually buys you
Speed sounds like an ego metric until it produces something you can hand to another human being.
Take the workforce program we’ve been building through our nonprofit. For a long time it was a beautiful intention: train mothers, give them the tools and the skills and the equipment, let them earn on their own schedule, take the childcare math off the table, keep the whole thing arm’s-length and clean because the 501(c)(3) does the training. Beautiful. Also fuzzy.
Once we got focused, we drove it all the way down to a firm number: the actual program cost to bring one mother from “interested” to “equipped and ready to earn.” A real per-mother figure.
That number changes everything, because now I don’t walk into a sponsor conversation with a vision. I walk in with a unit. This is what it costs to change one life. Here’s how many you’d like to fund. The intention became an ask. That only happened because we got fast enough to stop admiring the idea and start pricing it.
You can read more about who we do this for on our story page, and the lives already changed are documented over at our impact.
The part I underestimated: everyone touches it
I used to think a company was people plus a plan. I was wrong. A company, a real one, is a neural network.
Watching this team assemble has been the most convincing evidence for my own theory, and I say that as the skeptic who wrote it. The way we’re organizing information. The way we’re assigning ownership. The way we’re stacking technology so that a decision one person makes shows up, correctly, in the work of the next person without anyone re-explaining it. Every single person on this team touches the build through the technology, and the whole thing came together far faster than the org chart says it should have.
That’s not a management win. That’s the alignment I was just describing, made of people instead of light. Every person firing in phase, pointed the same way, amplifying the person next to them instead of scattering. That’s the theory holding. Heart set who we took on as partners, and why. Head built the system that lets them connect. Inspired action meant we shipped the structure before it was perfect and let it teach us. Magic, the actual output, is the speed and coherence that showed up on the other side. You can meet the people doing it here.
The part nobody warns you about
Here’s what they don’t put in the manifestation books.
When the new thing finally takes form, the old thing becomes a shadow. Everything that resembles the way it used to be, the old brand, the old packaging, the old positioning, suddenly reads as foreign. Not bad. Just not this. It’s a rebirth that’s also a relaunch, because almost nothing resembles what it was.
And that includes people.
Here’s how I operate, and I won’t apologize for it: I give everyone an opportunity. I always have. I tend to see people through the same lens I try to live by (honesty, integrity, good faith), and I assume they’re carrying the same intentions I am. Most of the time that’s a gift. Once in a while it’s cost me. I’ve learned some hard lessons there, and the lessons made me wiser, not more closed off. The door’s still open. I can just see a little more clearly now who’s ready to walk through it and actually build.
And I’ve made my peace with the truth that not everyone was here for the same reasons I was. I don’t need to keep score on that. Life has a way of sorting it out on its own.
What I’d rather say out loud is thank you. To the people who did build this, the ones who volunteered for the last year and a half, straight through the disorganization and the exhaustion and the weeks nobody would have blamed them for sitting out, and showed up anyway. Every single week, at a minimum. The ones who put their own money and their own hands into something that wasn’t guaranteed to work. That’s why we’re here. Getting focused was never really about who I let go. It was about finally being able to see, and honor, who stayed.
The honest caveat
I’m not going to stand here and tell you it worked, because we’re not there yet. We might still fail. I mean that plainly. Nothing about this is guaranteed, and I’d be lying to you and to myself if I pretended the outcome is in.
But here’s what I know for certain, watching the blueprint move in real time: it’s built on love, truth, and honesty, and that’s the exact reason I could sacrifice for as long as I did. I believed this was possible with the odds against me and no resources to speak of. Not because I’m special. Because the theory said a thing built in that order would eventually take form, and I’m now the beta test proving it can, at least far enough to write this down.
If you’re building something and it still looks like a wide fuzzy field of glowing atoms: that’s not failure. That’s the stage before the beam. Keep going until they fire in step. And when they do, protect that alignment from anyone who wants you scattered again.
